As the smallest county in England, John Speed's scale of the map of Rutland 1611 is larger than any of his others. The map was actually drawn earlier by a native of the county, John Harrington, and is therefore slightly different from the other county maps. All the trees in the many deer parks are carefully drawn. There are two town plans, those of Oakham and Stanford and two decorative strapwork cartouches containing coats of arms and allegorical figures balancing each side. This is a most interesting map.
