Nottinghamshire has long been famous for its Sherwood Forest and at John Speed's time of 1611 woodland covered a quarter of the county. A plan of the town of Nottingham is shown here embellished with decorative strapwork, a coat of arms and allegorical figures. Cartouches surround the title and the compass rose and scale. There are also heraldic coats of arms. There is a section of text about the famous Battle of Stoke Field in 1487 of Stoke Field.
