An early and very crisp printing from the "Appendix Theatri ..." of Blaeu's classic "carte a figures" of the Americas, showing portraits of native figures at either side and, above, vignettes of major cities including Havana, Mexico City, Cusco, Rio de Janeiro, Cartagena and Potosi. This attractive map has an inset map of Greenland, Iceland and the mythical Frisland. California is still shown as a peninsula; only one Great Lake is seen; and in Guyana Lake Parime is prominent. When first published, around 1618 as a separate issue, the map summarised the most up-to-date cartography and influenced numerous other map publications until mid-century.
