This is a must have for all those people who love railways and in particular the famous George Bradshaw who has recently captured the imagination and interest of millions with the popular television series Great British Railway Journeys presented by Michael Portillo. This magnificent map was originally produced by George Bradshaw in 1852, the year before he sadly lost his life to Cholera whilst on a trip to Europe. It has taken over 2 months to fully reconstruct in full colour directly from the rare original, the work passionately carried out by Steve Toulouse, now well known as the mapseeker graphic cartographer behind the many railway maps reproduced for bestselling books as The Times Atlas Mapping the Railways. Over 1700 railway stations are clearly marked on the map displayed as they pepper the many railway routes that are identified in terms of the Railway Companies they belong. There are detailed wonderful Environs Maps of the principal towns and the City of London showing the railways and stations that in many cases has only recently been constructed so as to connect them together. Brimming with historic detail the principal stations are identified with a red box from the hundreds of smaller stations individually identified that now are sadly derelict or have disappeared without trace, many the victim of the Beeching report that was published 101 years later. Those who now own a copy of the recently republished Bradshaw’s Tourist Guide can now if they wish add this gem of a railway map to their collection using it as a cross reference to the many railway stations as they make their way on the many nostalgic railway journeys powerfully described by George Bradshaw himself.
